Yes I know, more mobile web news. This is something you need to pay attention to if you want your small business to grow and thrive. According to a recent study done by Pew Research Group, 47% of all adults that own a cell phone or tablet view their local news on their mobile device. Here is a specific break down of what local news mobile users view on their cell phones. According to the study, 42% of all adult cell phone users use their mobile devices to get weather reports. 37% of all adult mobile phone users got information about local business and restaurants via a mobile device. 19% get local coupons via their mobile devices. There were some other stats on the report that were not really relevant to this article. Another interesting fact about adults with cell phones is that they are actually not all that affluent. According to the study, 19% of Americans with local mobile phone apps had an annual income of $75,000 or more. Meanwhile 12% of Americans with an annual income of $30,000 or more had local mobile phone apps.

Now I know what you are probably thinking. Well that’s nice, but what does that have to do with me? I’m just a small online business. How can I benefit from this information? It’s really quite simple. All of this data just proves one thing. You have to find a way to get your offer in front of mobile phone users if you want to reach the majority of adults.

You may have to design a mobile ready site to get this accomplished. You could get your offer onto one of the local mobile coupon sites such as groupon. You could even do something as simple as get the cell phone numbers of the people that subscribe to your email list and send them offers via text message. Of course you do have to make sure you get the permission of the mobile user before you randomly start sending out text messages. You also need to provide an easy way for people to opt out of your marketing campaign.

So how is your business going to use mobile marketing?
